Should I light a match or create smoke to test my smoke alarm? |
| A: |
|
Absolutely not. Smoke alarms are equipped with test buttons. By pushing them you can test alarm power and circuitry. Pushing the test button is the only way you should ever test your smoke alarm. |

My smoke alarm is chirping, even though I just installed a fresh battery. What is wrong with it? |
| A: |
|
There is a very good chance you’ve pressed the “Hush” button while installing
the new battery. The chirping indicates the alarm is in Hush sequence. It will reset within approx. 7 minutes. |

Where should I install a smoke alarm and CO alarm? |
| A: |
|
Smoke rises, so install your smoke alarm on the ceiling approximately 10-12 inches from a side wall OR on the wall approximately 10-12 inches down from the ceiling. Make sure it is not near a window or other obstruction. Carbon monoxide has the same density as air, so it neither rises nor falls. That means your CO alarm can go anywhere along the wall or on the ceiling, but most people install them near the floor as many are powered by a wall plug. |
