Kidde Canada, Canada's largest manufacturer of smoke alarms is committed to ongoing educational efforts towards the goal of eliminating child deaths from fire.

Children are among the most vulnerable to injury or death cause by fire, smoke or burns. Fire and smoke send nearly 600 kids to Canadian hospitals each year and annually some 20 will die. Fire and Smoke are responsible for 10% of deaths among children in Canada. In 2 out of every 3 fires where there are fatalities, investigators find no working smoke alarms.

  1. Replace any smoke alarms over 10 years old whether battery opperated or hardwired into your home's electrical system.
  2. Install fresh batteries at least once per year.
  3. Install smoke alarms on every storey and outside bedrooms. It's The Law in Ontario!
  4. Never take down or remove batteries from smoke alarms.
  5. Create and practice a family fire escape plan.
